SAVE BARROSO
About Me
I am a Portuguese American who is very concerned about the impact of the proposed lithium mines on the Barroso region. My Avô (grandfather) grew up in the village of Sarraquinhos, located in Barroso, just two miles from the Spanish border. If the mine in Covas do Barroso moves forward then Sarraquinhos will likely be impacted as well. Even though I grew up in the United States, I feel a deep connection to the Barroso region. We were recently able to trace our family history in Sarraquinhos back to the 1700s and it is likely that my ancestors had been farming there for much longer than 300 years. It breaks my heart to think about having open pit mines destroying this beautiful area and I feel like I need to do something to help. I am convinced that there are others in the US, like me, who have a connection to Barroso and want to conserve it. Please help us protect this special area.
